Cacao is a Portal

I’ve been thinking about how cacao came into my life. When I started drinking it three years ago, I had no idea it would be the catalyst for my spiritual awakening. It felt like something in my brain and body switched on. Like I had been living on the surface level of life, and cacao quietly pulled me deeper — turning the volume up on everything.

I don’t even know what originally drew me to it. Honestly , I just thought it looked tasty. But once I started drinking cacao, something strange happened: I completely lost interest in alcohol. Not out of discipline — it simply didn’t feel aligned anymore. Even the idea of drinking made me feel sick. Without even trying, I became sober… and I’ve stayed that way for three years.

It feels like I’ve been in an initiation with cacao this whole time, but really the initiation has been with myself — my own self-love, truth, and authenticity.

I’ve also felt the shame or gatekeeping that sometimes floats around in the spiritual community: who “should” drink cacao, who’s “allowed,” who’s “doing it right.” If I had listened to any of that, I don’t know where I’d be now. Cacao is for everyone, no matter where you are on your path. If something in you feels pulled toward a medicine, a practice, a ritual — follow it. It might take you somewhere you never expected. Mine led me to uproot my whole life, pack my bags, and travel to Guatemala… unknowingly to the birthplace of cacao ceremony.

This is why cacao is often called a master plant. Her medicine is subtle, because she doesn’t take you somewhere — she reveals you to yourself. People say cacao is a heart opener, but what does that actually mean? To me, opening the heart is unlocking more aspects of your own magic, intuition, and essence. 🧡✨

Cacao is a key — but the lock it opens isn’t external. It’s the parts of you that have been waiting patiently for your attention. The quiet truths. The intuition you dismissed. The creativity you forgot you had. The tender places that want to be held instead of avoided.
Her medicine doesn’t force anything open; it simply softens you enough to turn the lock from the inside.
